How many people can live in a 2 bedroom apartment?

Recent Posts Recent Comments

I got some hill rat neighbors in my duplex and they have 6 people, all adults, living in a 2 bedroom apartment full time with 2 others, 1 adult and 1 kid whos 14, that stay 2 or 3 nights a week. In Indiana whats the limit for the number of people in a 2 bedroom apartment?

Depends on too many variables. If the bedrooms are good-sized, you could have a LOT of bunk beds. If the living room is large, you could have a couple of fold-away couches.

But bottom line is, the lease should enumerate what the LANDLORD wants. It’s his place, after all.

i would say the limit is 3 is four. 2 parents living in the same room and maybe 2 siblings sharing a room. anything else would be a really uncomfortable way of living.

Check out your specific lease, it should have a maximum occupancy on it.

Three would probably be common but no more than four.

I know it is 5 in most places. 2 per bedroom and 1 extra. This is usually the fire code limit.

I suggest you call the courthouse in the county in which the property is located and ask them if there are any restrictions. These rules tend to vary from county to county, not state to state. And some have no rules at all.

There is no limit. I’m sure the landlord never agreed for that many to live there so you need to contact him. Usually only 2 people sign the lease and there children can live with them….not 6 adults. We live in a 2 bedroom duplex and 4 people is beginning to be too much. Our neighbor was the same way, 6 adults and 2 children. The landlord found out and now it is back to the original 2.

In some most states there is no limit and in others they require so many sq ft. The main thing is how many people are on the lease, since the landlord should be able to get more rent if more people are staying there than stated. The exception is that you can have as many direct relatives as you want and the landlord can’t charge more rent. I would ask your landlord what the deal is and tell him you are not going to renew if they stay. My bet is they are behind on rent. Child services may also frown on a minor staying in such conditions. It’s not really clear how many ppl are there total. Is it 6 or 8 ppl total?
