Is there a home law on how big/steep steps can be in a home or apartment?

i’m wondering if there is a width or length steps have to be to be safe, and to be up to code in apartments or homes. I don’t know that there is but if any contracters or someone could let me know, that would be great!

yes there are building codes every where for stairs. Ideally your rise ( step to step) should be around 7 1/2 inches. The width of the stair tread needs to be around 11 or 12 inches. Also if it is a apartment building the requirements for the width of the stair well may be different than those of a house. You need th check with your local building authority to find out what the exact measurements are in your area.

yes there is a code for stairs. it says low big the steps need to be and how steep then can be. it varies state to state so just do some research. you could also go to your towns home inspector and ask them for the correct specs for your area
