Can I apply for food stamps if I live in student housing?

I’m a college student and I live in student housing, not dorms. I work more than 20 hours per week and I have no meal plan or anything like that. Am I eligible for food stamps?

The eligibility requirements change all the time. It really all depends on your income and allowed expenses. You should apply because it sounds like you need them or could use them. The worst that could happen is that you would not qualify. You have nothing to lose by applying.

Can you live in student housing if you’re not a student?

My boyfriend is a student at Portsmouth University and for his second year he plans to move from halls into a student house. I am not a student so would i be able to live there with him?

The property is only exempt from council tax if ALL the people living there are full time students. If you occupy a room by yourself in a student house then you would be personally liable for council tax, which can be expensive. If the accommodation is rented through or owned by the university (or other company that specialises in student accommodation ) then you would not be able to live together. If you rent a private flat together the same situation would apply you alone would be liable for council tax if you boyfriend is a full time student. Check with your local council whether they offer any discounts if one person is student and the other is working.

I want to go to school 4 hours away so living at home is not an option. I already have a job that will transfer but I don’t have the finances to live on my own and with having to leave every semester a job would not function. So if I get student housing will I be able to live there through the breaks and into the summer as long as I am still attending that school?

For most dorms, YOU CAN’T stay there year round. Eventually, you have to move out and come back. This usually happens during end the semesters.

Also, you have to have people to run the dorm, and they want to go home also. So, for Thanksgiving, Christmas, your dorms MAY be closed.

For apartments however, stay there as long as you are under lease.

Married Student Housing, What are the rules?

I know that if you’re married then you can live at a college campus for pretty cheap and attend college, but I don’t quite know all the rules.. Like;
1- Do both students have to be going to college to live in married student housing?
2- If those students have a child can they still live in the housing?
3- How much is the rent for the housing?
4- Is the housing nice?

And just any other information you know on the subject, please share thank you!
oh and is it easier to get a grant if you’re married?

if you are married

both of you do not have to be going to the school

and if you have a child you can still live there

the rent is based on where you live

and most of them are pretty nice

What happens if Ive signed a lease with student housing apartments and I dont move in?

K, so mid summer i signed a lease with a university student housing, and now i am not going to school and wont recieve any financial aid. What would happen if i didnt move in on the move in date?

If you haven’t contacted them yet to tell them this so they can find a replacement then you owe them the terms of your lease.

So, I signed up for student housing back in May.And just the other day I got accepted to the University Of Kentucky on a Scholarship. But I never put any money down for the apartment and I also never got the key, all I did was sign the lease. and they said I had 72 hours in May to get out of the lease. is there anyway i can get out of this?

You probably can get out of it, just not for free.

I will be starting my freshman year at FIT in Manhattan. My parents will be paying the rent. The Dorms
are way too expensive. I have wasted several days looking at filthy and sketchy places recently and then flying back home. Any secret places I missed ?

Funny. I am trying to help out my former Loft/mate. Great man. Almost my step father ! I had a great time at John’s Loft for 1 year. Cheap and fast commute to my college FIT. My father payed the rent and felt secure when he met John. I was the last one to move out but their were 5 of us 20-23 f living at John’s place going to Fashion Institute of technology. 1 21 male going to Brooklyn College. It is a beautiful Penthouse Loft near several bus lines and the A express. Here is the Link to John’s website.

It completely depends on where you go to college. Without knowing that no one can give you an accurate answer. The cost of living differs by state.

Affordable Student housing in santa barbara?

I’m a high school student and i plan on going to sbcc (santa barbara city college) I am wondering what housing is available, that is also affordable. I would also like it to be nice, not a crime filled neighborhood. Thanks.

Firstly, Santa Barbara does not have crime filled neighborhoods.
Secondly, there is not much that is affordable in SB.
But, if you are going to SBCC, you won’t be spending much on tuition so it evens out.
Contact SBCC housing dept. There are some apartments across the street from SBCC. They are more reasonable than most.
Isla Vista is less expensive than most but then again you will be in IV. It’s a long way from campus and it’s a major party area. You could save quite a bit in gas by walking to school.

Are there any summer student housing organizations in LA?

I’d like to do an internship in Los Angeles this summer, but am wondering where I’d be able to live for just 3-4 months. (Anything less than a year apartment leases are pretty rare, am I right?)

I go to NYU, and during the summer, I know that they open up the dorms to non-NYU students who are just spending the summer in NYC. It appears that UCLA does not have a program like this. Anyone know of any similar programs in the LA area?

Many of the Universities in the area have their own summer programs, or need the time to do maintenance and repair on the dorms. So I expect you won’t find any.
